NASA astronaut Jonny Kim, who is also a medical doctor and former Navy SEAL, launched to the International Space Station aboard a Russian Soyuz spacecraft with two cosmonauts. The trio will spend the next eight months conducting research in low Earth orbit.

“At the end of the day, we’re all humans doing our parts, trying to make this world a better place,” Kim explained in a prelaunch interview.
